Kampala Cement Company Ltd. recognizes environmental protection as one of our guiding principles and a key component of sound business performance. We are committed to providing quality cement in a manner that ensures a safe and healthy workplace for our employees as we minimize our impact on the environment by operating in compliance with relevant Local, National and International environmental legislation, as we strive to use environmental best practices in all we do.

The Management is responsible for:

  • Integrating environmental considerations into our business decision making so as to promote current and future environmental awareness amongst our employees, customers and the public and encourage them to work in an environmentally responsible manner.
  • Providing appropriate training, education and communication to our employees and other parties about to support our EMS 14001:2015 and other environmental issues that may affect their work by Characterizing, monitoring and minimizing aspects of our operations that have impacts on the environment.
  • Procuring environmentally responsible products/ services that have been selected based on criteria including: toxicity, durability, reduced energy and/or water consumption, reduced packaging, recyclability and re-use at the end of their useful life.
  • Meet and where appropriate exceed all relevant legislation, industry standard and regulations.
  • Minimize our consumption of natural resources in relation to: Energy and water efficiency, Waste minimization and recycling Sustainable procurement and influencing suppliers and contractors Transport policies and fuel use, and avoid unnecessary use of hazardous materials and seek alternatives whenever feasible.
  • Striving to continuously improve the efficiency of our operations so as to minimize the use of resources and the generation of waste and to ensure that any waste generated is dealt with in an environmentally responsible manner.
  • Striving to continually improve our environmental performance, setting targets and minimize the social impact and damage of our activities by periodically reviewing our environmental policy in light of our current and planned future activities.

Employees are responsible for:

  • Where required by legislation or where significant health, safety or environmental hazards exist, adhere to the appropriate emergency and spill response programs.
  • Report all environmental incidents/complaints and apply appropriate corrective measures to avoid reoccurrence;
  • Minimize the use of non-renewable resources and where feasible and safely replace them with substitute raw materials, alternative fuels or biomass.

Top Management shall:

  • Make this Environmental Policy publicly available and respond to reasonable requests for information about our environmental performance, co-ordinate the implementation of this policy and ensure that sufficient resources are made available to this effect;
  • The heads of departments will steer implementation of this policy by ensuring that effective guidelines, procedures and improvement programs are in place in their respective areas;
  • All employees share the responsibility for implementation of this policy.
